CESSDA webinar: Harmonised data for comparative research
Monday 15 June 2020
Comparative social science research requires comparable data across countries. This free CESSDA webinar will explore key sources of harmonised comparative data and methods and tools for harmonising data.
Hosted by Jen Buckley from the UK Data Service<https://ukdataservice.ac.uk/>, the session will give an overview of available sources and include two expert speakers.
We will hear first from Professor Irina Tomescu-Dubrow, who will discuss methodology that the Survey Data Recycling Project<https://www.asc.ohio-state.edu/dataharmonization/about/> develops to harmonize ex-post data pooled from cross-national survey projects in the social sciences.
Then, Dr Kristi Winters will address how we should approach documenting data harmonisation work, including a description of CharmStats, an open-source software that enables researchers to simultaneously perform and document the process of variable coding and harmonization.
The 1-hour session will include presentations, case studies, and a chance to ask questions.
Target audience: researchers interested in comparative/cross-national research (with a primary interest in European survey data).
