Dear Colleagues,
GridPP has been involved in a number of discussions about using
resources for COVID19 related simulations over the last couple of weeks
and has also offered GridPP resources and assistance in a number of
different forums. At present, the only real work I am aware of, are the
~4000 cores (currently) that we are contributing to the folding@home
simulations:
https://stats.foldingathome.org/team/246309
I note that 4000-cores is probably approaching 5% of our resources.
However, we have been told that the BIOMED VO will shortly start running
COVID19 related workloads and there is information below about how sites
can do to specifically support these workloads. I think it would be
entirely reasonable for sites to support this work at the same scale as
[log in to unmask] I would like to find out more about these workloads but at
the moment I would guess it is possible that they could be of more
immediate benefit than the folding@home simulations.
Finally, I have asked Alessandra Forti to be our lead technical contact
for any COVID19-related enquiries. Alessandra set up the folding@home
team and has demonstrated how this sort of simple workflow can be run
both by the ATLAS submission system and using our DIRAC instance. She is
also involved in various WLCG forums relating to COVID19 and is part of
some other on-going discussions.
***Therefore, for any COVID19 related work/enquires/questions, please
keep Alessandra in the loop if they are technical and please keep me
(and/or Pete Clarke) in the loop if they are managerial/strategic***
If other COVID projects develop, then Alessandra may call on selected
technical people to support their development. This is fully supported
by GridPP.
------EMAIL about BIOMED Jobs----------
The biomed community is mostly running their payloads through the
France-Grille DIRAC service. However,
all the sites supporting the biomed VO are supposed to be connected.
Currently I see that most of the major
(and not only) UK sites are accepting the biomed jobs.
The biomed COVID jobs are tagged with the COVID19 tag in the DIRAC WMS
and can only go to sites that expose
this tag. Actually ALL the sites supporting biomed are tagged this way.
Also sites can have a RequiredTag
option in their DIRAC configuration to accept ONLY COVID jobs from the
biomed VO. If it is done, the site
will only get COVID jobs although for the site these jobs are not
different from regular biomed jobs.
We also set up the JobType COVID19 in the DIRAC accounting, so, that
we can follow exactly this
activity and we will be able to report each site contribution for this
activity.
Finally, these jobs are having high priority within DIRAC compared to
order biomed jobs.
The COVID biomed activity did not yet started but they are working
hard to ready it up.
To allow COVID jobs on UK sites, essentially there is not much to do.
If some sites want to support
the COVID jobs only, please, let me know and I will do the necessary
configuration bits without the
need for the sites to set up some local job filtering.
