Following a recent survey which Standalone undertook on the struggles estranged students are experiencing during Covid 10 lockdown, Standalone will be hosting a free virtual best practice session on ZOOM on supporting these students for staff in colleges on 6 May, and for staff in universities on 7 May.

The aim of the session is to give colleagues the opportunity to talk about their experiences and challenges in working with these students during the current lockdown and the problems they expect as time goes on, including the summer period, and to learn from each other by exchanging ideas and best practice in supporting these students. 

The session will look at the main areas the recent survey identified where students have indicated they are struggling: finance, accommodation, mental health and academic study. The survey was undertaken in collaboration with a group of charities supporting care leavers: https://bit.ly/2YafK9y
