Hi Kristen,
Far from it. You have not missed the point! You are exploring one of the most important debates of our time (at least in the design community).
Of course, 'Design Thinking’ is, like most things in design, not a single unified practice, but in it’s IDEO incarnation it is, in my view, an empty shell: a solution in search of an undefined problem. Moreover, you don’t seem to need any skills to take part in it—the final democratisation of design.
That is, of course, only my point of view, and I suspect there are many on this list who might not agree with me. But that is the nature of serious debate.
