Odysseus Summer School on EU Immigration and Asylum Law and Policy
29 June - 10 July 2020 in Brussels
The 20th anniversary of our Summer School ( http://odysseus-network.eu/2020-summer-school/eng/ ) is the occasion to underline that it has trained more than 2000 persons and is well known as an asset for job seekers. The 20th edition will focus on the new pact on migration to be presented by the European Commission that will be the object of several specific sessions. The objective is to give to the participants a global understanding of the immigration and asylum policies in the EU from a legal perspective. Lectures are available both in English and French upon the choice of the participants.
On top of classes, there will be visits to the European Institutions and evening debates ( http://odysseus-network.eu/2020-summer-school/eng/extracurricular-activities/ ) about the most recent news like a proposal discussed with EU officials or a case pending before a court with the lawyers engaged in it. The course provides also an excellent opportunity to spend an intellectually stimulating fortnight and to network among a group of around one hundred fellow participants specialized in the area of asylum and immigration. The closing date for applications is 15 May 2020.
Doctoral Seminar with four grants
In addition to the Summer School regular activities, PhD students/researchers are invited to apply for the Doctoral Seminar ( http://odysseus-network.eu/2020-summer-school/eng/phd-seminar-with-grants-available-2/ ) and present their PhD project to a panel of Odysseus Network's Members. A good occasion for the public to discover how a PhD looks like, including the methodology! PhD students/researchers can apply to the four grants available that cover most of the costs related to their participation in the summer school.
The initiative "Scholarships for Refugees" aims to provide a number of refugee students with the opportunity to gain knowledge in EU immigration and asylum law. It intends to help them to integrate by engaging with European academia. Several of them used during the last years that occasion to be trained and work in a NGO. We aim to host about a dozen of refugee students and, to achieve this goal, we have set up a #refYOUgee crowdfunding campaign ( details at http://odysseus-network.eu/2020-summer-school/eng/scholarships-for-refugees-2020/ ).
