Job title: Research Assistant (Refugee Integration Yorkshire & Humber)
Job reference: R4917
Application closing date: 18/03/2020
Salary: Grade 6 (£27,763 to £34,108 per annum)
Job category/type: Research

Job description
Fixed term appointment until 31 December 2020
37 hours per week

Refugee Integration Yorkshire & Humber is a partnership between Migration Yorkshire, five local authorities (Barnsley, Calderdale, Doncaster, Hull City Council and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council) and the University of Huddersfield. It is co-funded by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. It combines a mix of practical and more strategic initiatives. The overall purpose of the project is to develop a balanced understanding of the integration that occurs within our local communities, and thus direct future service design to optimise integration. The project started in January 2019 and will complete on the 31st December 2020.

The University of Huddersfield undertakes a research role on the project which will lead to the production of a research report and inform the development of a regional integration strategy for the Yorkshire and Humber region. Our research focuses upon trying to generate a whole-society understanding as to the integration of refugees. Around 100 organisations across the Yorkshire and Humber region have taken part in qualitative interviews. These interviews have focused on their understanding and, where relevant, implementation of policy and practice in their day-to-day work. The organisations who have taken part in the project are those who have had a direct or indirect role in the integration of refugees (e.g. local authorities, the faith sector, the voluntary and community sector, businesses, funders, leisure services and others). The data collection stage is now complete and there is a need for additional support to analyse the data that has been generated and contribute to the written outputs.

We are inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant to support the project. Working with Professor Phil Brown the successful candidate will support the analysis of the large qualitative dataset, contribute to written outputs, disseminate the work and undertake various administrative duties.
