Hi Amy

That's excellent! Just to check - is this configurable by each person or is it set for the whole meeting?

    Hi Samantha

Good choice of platform, we love Teams at AbilityNet!

There is now a setting where you can switch on live captions. Click the '...' and it brings up the attached menu where you can switch on.

I think other than that it is encouraging people to take turns speaking (this helps to make sure the captions are comprehensible) and make sure everyone is properly facing their camera and speaking clearly to assist with lip reading.

Also have a culture of people being able to request things be repeated without anyone else getting frustrated (I am sure this is the case with you but just make it implicit to say if something gets missed so people feel comfortable at any time to raise that they haven't caught what was said).

The other great thing with Teams is that all meetings can be recorded (subject to storage space) so your team can review meetings later to pick up anything that didn't come across clearly at the time. I think the captions can be amended too after the event if they have any anomalies.

    Best Wishes

    Amy

Subject: MS Teams and hearing impairments

    Hi all,

As we move away from face-to-face we are increasingly holding team briefings and contacting each other via MS Teams either through Teams meetings or calls.

Is there any guidance on how to improve the accessibility of MS Teams for those with hearing impairments or tried workarounds?

    Thanks,

    Samantha
