Hello everyone,
A short note to introduce and welcome four new members to the CHAT Standing Committee! They are, in no particular order:
Miriam Rothenburg, PhD Candidate at Brown University, studying landscapes of disaster, memory, and trauma on
contemporary Montserrat.
Rebecca L. Hearne, PhD Candidate at the University of Sheffield, exploring archaeological practice as a form of therapy for people who live with or are recovering from mental health disorders.
Rachael Kiddey, British Academy postdoctoral researcher at the School of Archaeology, University of Oxford, leading on a project titled ‘Migrant Materialities’.
Jaime Almansa-Sánchez, founder and manager of JAS Arqueología S.L.U., a commercial firm devoted to public archaeology, and researcher at Instituto de Ciencias del Patrimonio, CSIC, Spain.
This brings the standing committee to 13 with representation in the USA, Netherlands, Spain, UK, Greece, Sweden and Norway.
We have recently been discussing CHAT meeting accessibility and we would like to canvas forum members, particularly those who have wanted to come to CHAT meetings, but haven't been able to. Our aim is to assess whether the present meeting format can be tweaked in any way to increase or diversify participation and remove potential barriers to attendance. One of the things to do, for instance, is to try to keep the meetings low cost and to offer, when possible, small bursaries. But there may be more that we can consider, and indeed do.
If you have ever wanted to attend CHAT, but haven’t been able to, would you be happy to share the reason why?
Either reply to all, or privately to myself < [log in to unmask] > All comments appreciated.
Stay well everyone, strange times,
Hilary
