The Peel Group have a rare and exciting opportunity for an Archives Assistant to join the team on a fixed-term contract (12 months) to help assist the Group Archivist with projects relating to the preservation and provision of access to the company’s historical collections.
Typical activities will include helping to sort, list, digitise and repackage photographs, documents and objects, this will include lifting and carrying of items and boxes also. The candidate will be expected to assist with research and preparing information to answer enquiries. The post will involve some local travel between sites and the possibility of lone working on occasions, so having your own transport for the role would be beneficial to the successful role holder.
The post will provide an opportunity to gain insight into the business heritage sector and to develop practical skills. The role will suit someone with an interest in the heritage sector who can demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the appraisal, accessioning and cataloguing of historical collections (on and off site)
Package and store collections according to best practice
Assist in research and preparing information to answer enquiries
Digitise archives
Assist the Group Archivist in the administration of the archive collections and associated projects
Work on individual projects (training will be given)
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Undergraduate degree (preferable but not essential)
Excellent attention to detail skills
Excellent English written communication skills
Excellent IT skills
Driving licence and access to a car is essential
The ability to carry and lift boxes is essential
