Dear colleagues,
Firstly, just to say I hope you're all well and looking after yourselves as best as you can in these uncertain times.
At Wellcome Collection, we aim to challenge how people think and feel about health. The Collections Development Team is currently thinking about how we can respond to the Covid-19 pandemic in a way that is ethical, respectful and collaborative.
We have already put this call-out on twitter, and received a number of responses from institutions and individuals interested in collaborating on collecting in this area. We're currently pulling this together to try and map out the different areas of interest in collecting before we can all connect as a collaborative network.
Our primary focus is to ensure our collecting is considered, properly planned and properly documented so that any material collected can be used by researchers in the future. We will be respectful of lived experience and be sensitive of the fact that this virus can be fatal. We will work together with other institutions to ensure that our collective history of Covid-19 ends up in the most appropriate place and that our collecting remains within our area of expertise.
If anyone else is also considering ethical collecting during a public health emergency and would like to get in contact please email [log in to unmask] with details of your archive and what your collecting policy or interests are.
With best wishes,
Elena Carter
