The annual Visitor Studies Group Conference will be held on the 5th and 6th of March 2020 at the Museum of London.
Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/visitor-studies-group-2020-conference-tickets-79569318975
This year’s theme is ‘Co-Creating the Future: Participation and the Role of Visitor Studies’. Over two days, we will explore, interrogate and understand how emerging research and evaluation around participatory practice and projects, collaboration and co-designing can help evidence the challenges and benefits of these models of working.
We will be joined by speakers from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Guildhall Barbican, Historic Royal Palaces, British Museum, New Citizenship Project, Museum of London, University of Leeds and Bradford’s National Museum Project.
Our keynote presentations are:
- ‘The People’s Palace story – innovating and working together in Glasgow’ - Jane Rowlands (Senior Manager, Glasgow Museums) and Kevin Ditcham (Community Development and Participation Specialist, The Democratic Society) . This presentation will explore the journey towards empowering communities in the capital transformation programme for the People’s Palace in the heart of Glasgow. A co-production approach to community engagement and the impact it’s had so far.
- ‘Critical conversations - becoming a listening museum’ - Kirsty Devine (Programme Director, Paisley Museum Re-imagined). Paisley Museum Re-Imagined is the biggest renewal that the Museum has undertaken in its 150 year history. To help realise this ambition the wider public were asked to shape the plans for the building, landscape and the collections. Co-production and audience engagement were core to all aspects of the redevelopment and the approach has resulted in changes in practice and project outcomes. While challenging at times, ultimately the aim is to create a rich and diverse museum experience.
