Hi Alistair
Sounds like a great idea. I heard about this recently from Jon Evans.
I live too far south to be of much practical assistance 'on the ground' but will be pleased to offer help in the way of mineralogical expertise and knowledge of Scottish mineralogy and associated literature.
Have a great launch meeting!

The Southern Uplands Mining Heritage Organisation will be formed at a meeting at 2 pm on Saturday 7th March, at the Museum of Lead Mining in Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire.
The aims of the Organisation will probably be:
1. To improve knowledge and understanding of the mining and quarrying heritage of the Southern Uplands.
2. To ensure that geological, biological, archaeological and historical evidence of mining and quarrying is protected.
3. To enhance the skills needed in relation to this heritage, including the use of new technologies.
4. To encourage an interest in this heritage, by working with community groups and government.
5. To help communities benefit economically and socially from their mining and quarrying heritage.
For more information, and to reserve a place at the meeting, please e-mail [log in to unmask] or phone 07763 850087.
