Dear Colleagues,
The BSA South-Coast Medical Sociology study group in conjunction with the Wellcome Trust funded EPPiGEN Project are delighted to announce the next regional symposium: Hospital Ethnography- to be held on Friday 6th March 2020 12-5pm, at the University of Southampton, Highfield Campus, Building 2, Room 5053.
With Guest Speakers:
1. Professor Catherine Pope (University of Oxford) Observing surgery
2. Dr Andy Northcott (De Montfort University) Cultures of tasks and attention: Visibilities and invisibilities of people living with
dementia admitted to assessment units.
3. Dr Katie Featherstone (Cardiff University) Interactional performance and rigid repertoires of bedside talk: the work of communicating the ‘rules of the ward’ to people living with dementia and its consequences.
4. Dr Emily Oliver and Professor Jackie Bridges (University of Southampton) Keeping up with the clock: rationalism and its insidious effects on nursing care
5. Dr Erica Borgstrom ( The Open University) Stepping into the side room: a space for protection and death
6. Dr Anna Galazka (University of Cardiff) Managing stigma: a relational analysis of wound healing in the UK
