The Bilderfahrzeuge Lecture series
The arts - visual, dramatic or conceptual - comment and reflect on politics and social realities. By doing so they aim at acting on the very contexts they address. Such programmatic claims are currently being discussed as "artistic activism". However, intervention by visual or performative means is not confined to contemporary artistic practices but an important component of a socio-political history of art. In the context of its Lecture Series, the international research project Bilderfahrzeuge invites both academics and practitioners to facilitate a conversation among art historians, artists and activists on the question of the relation between art and politics in history and today.
