Jointly organised by the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, SOAS,
and the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, University of Manchester,
and sponsored by the Granada Centre Alumni Association:
11:00-1:00 Film-making Feedback. Anthropology students will screen their
films and receive feedback from a panel of professional film-makers.
2:00-3:30 Anthropology: A Fieldwork Science/Documentary Art. Andrew Irving.
This session will explore classic and experimental audiovisual approaches
to anthropology—including film and sensory ethnography, experimental and
multi-media, graphic art, sound research and performative methods developed
at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology.
3:30-4:00 Tea and coffee
4:00-5:00 How to make a living as a film-maker. Hugh Hartford and Yasmin
Fedda will show examples of their work and talk about the practicalities of
their careers as anthropologically-informed filmmakers. Chaired by Paul
Henley, Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology
5:00-6:00 Drinks reception offered by the Granada Centre Alumni Association
6:00-8:00 Sneak preview of a new film about the Syrian ‘disappeared’. To be
followed by Q&A with director Yasmin Fedda and producer Hugh Hartford.
