Dear All,
Sadly our colleague Tim Tarrant died last week after a long battle with cancer.
Tim was Programme Leader of the MA Documentary at University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and taught into the BA Filmmaking. He completed his PhD on Digital and completed his PhD on the distribution of low budget features films, with Jon Dovey. He had a breadth of experience in TV production, including 18 years experience at the BBC in News and Current Affairs, and also as a freelance series producer and producer/director (PD) for various documentary series and formats for C4, ITV, Discovery and the BBC. He had been an editor, sound recordist, floor manager, vision mixer, multi-camera studio director, outside broadcast director, 3rd and 1st assistant director on CBBC’s drama Byker Grove, self shooting PD on docusoaps, factual formats and documentaries, with a variety of cameras, in many challenging countries. As a series producer he was responsible for creating the editorial and aesthetic formats of series of up to 30 x 30 episodes on a wide range of factual series like Bear Grylls: Born Survivor, DIY SOS, Bailiffs, The Village and Wanted.
Tim has been on extended sick leave, but we had no idea that we were going to lose him so quickly. He leaves his wife and three children behind. Colleagues at UWE are putting together a little box of thoughts and memories for his family so they can get a sense of his work life.
If you knew Tim and wanted to share anything, then email me by the end of next week and I can add it to the box: [log in to unmask]
We are all greatly saddened by this awful news.
Best wishes,
Charlotte and the UWE Filmmaking Team
RIP Tim...
