rummaging, I realised 'hr' means HRESULT, the developer's friend and 0x80070005 is E_ACCESSDENIED which pointed to the CMD prompt not taking the admin rights as instructed. Getting rid of it and opening it again, again with admin rights, got past the first error to be presented with the next error, a sharepoint timeout. So I've given it SHAREPOINTTIMEOUT=3600 in case it needs thinking time. I'm beginning to think it wasn't a sync problem in the first place as the sharepoint front page is taking over 10mins to load. I'm wondering whether sharepoint caused all this rumpus.

cheers,

Alistair

thanks for that but nothing has changed on the server where the install previously worked. I've seen references to windows uninstallers leaving the system in a state so not sure if a complete rebuild of the server is required.

cheers,

Alistair
