The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at University College London is an international centre of excellence for clinical trials and associated research, undertaking the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of multi-centre studies, resolving internationally important questions in infectious diseases and cancer, and delivering swifter and more effective translation of scientific research in to patient benefits. We achieve this by carrying out challenging and innovative studies, and developing and implementing new methodologies in trial conduct, design and analysis. The Unit undertakes world-class research, and we are committed to strengthening and expanding the evidence base for healthcare both nationally and internationally, delivering innovative research that can really make a difference.

Both roles will involve working within multi-disciplinary teams on the trials and associated translational research.
The successful candidates will be working within a friendly multi-disciplinary trial team as well as working as part of a wider group of statisticians, with opportunities for skills and career development, both in statistics and more broadly in research careers.

In this exciting role you will:
Take responsibility for statistical aspects of the trials: Developing statistical analysis plans and working practices, undertaking analyses, preparation and presentation of reports, discussion and interpretation of results, assisting in the preparation of conference abstracts and papers for peer reviewed journals.
Take responsibility for day to day management of statistical aspects of the studies: Liaising on data quality, actively providing a statistical viewpoint for decisions about trial management, and identification of potential problems impacting on final results.
Provide statistical advice on the development of new research proposals, including study design and sample size calculations.
For proposals that are funded - assist in the development of case report forms and specifications for analysis datasets, and the study database.
Develop knowledge of the biology and epidemiology of relevant disease areas.
Work on methodological problems, in collaboration with interested colleagues.
Participate in teaching and in the statistical review of papers.
Key Requirements
The successful candidates will have an enthusiastic approach, excellent communication skills, and proven ability to prioritise and work to deadlines. They should have a good understanding of statistical concepts and familiarity with one or more statistical packages, and a good understanding of randomised controlled trial principles.
Practical experience of statistical methods in analysing trial would be an advantage, as would experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams and preparing/presenting reports.
