I would like to draw your attention to a forthcoming event which will provide an update on the HE:FE Veterans Champion's Network (HEFE-VCN) which will take place on Monday 17th February 2020 at Edinburgh City Chambers.

This event builds on the January 2019 conference which was hosted at Glasgow Caledonian University entitled “Service Families and veterans: Why and How should we help?” one outcome which was to set up the HE:FE Veterans Champion’s Network (HEFE-VCN) regional HUBs and also prepare the information toolkit to be presented to each HE and FE institution as guidance. All Universities and Colleges in Scotland have been invited to join the Network and this process is 80% complete. Universities and Colleges have also been set up into regional HUBS and a number of universities and colleges have signed up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.

A considerable amount of work has also been done by SCQF on the Military Mapping of qualifications and this project has funding to continue for another few years to ensure the mapping is complete. This has been, and continues to be, a mammoth task and the SCQF are doing an excellent job at mapping the qualifications and influencing MoD.

Within the SFC Veterans Working Group, work and discussion has also taken place to begin to look at other opportunities for the Education Sector in Scotland to enhance the lives of the various Armed Forces Communities through various channels, for example, working with the children of Armed Forces families and how the Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme can work for the benefit of Ex Service personnel.

The event on 17th February will be to enter The Next Stage, bringing people together to work towards an effective sector HUB where hopefully impact and influence can be made on MoD thinking around education.

Details of the conference are available at the link below and you should contact the organisers at the link below for any further information:
