Dear anthropologists,
First of all, happy new year, I hope you have greatly enjoyed the holidays.
Now my request! Can anyone recommend an ethnographic text which explores
the reasons why individuals are attracted to far-right Christian movements,
whether in the US or Europe? Ideally I am looking for something with a
strong gender analysis and where the narratives of the adherents comes
through nicely in the data.
FYI I am using this for teaching a class on religious violence and the
reasons (which often have little to do with religion) for the appeal of
extremist movements. I've already got great case studies of women in Hindu
nationalist movements by Atreyee Sen, women in Boko Haram by Hilary
Matfess, and Parisian men joining Islamic State by Fabian Truong. But a
Christian example would be a nice complement...
Thanks
Anneke
