At the beginning of the current issue Denise Britz do Nascimento Silva introduces herself as President of IASS and pays her tribute to IASS member Prof. T.M.F. Smith who passed away recently. James Chipperfield introduces himself as Scientific Secretary of IASS. He presents a list of the conferences which are supported by IASS in 2020 and which have been supported by IASS in 2019. The News and Announcements section includes papers on impressions from several conferences in 2019, and information about the Chief Methodologist Network. Besides the regular features of country reports on activities related to survey statistics, Table of Contents of relevant journals and announcements for upcoming conferences, each issue includes the special articles under the headings Ask the Expert, New and Emerging Methods, and Book & Software Review.
The current issue contains the following:
* The Ask the Experts section provides a description of the method for population size estimation by Peter G. M. van der Heijden and Maarten Cruyff (Utrecht University, the Netherlands) “Wider applications for dual and multiple system estimation”.
* New and Emerging Methods section includes two papers devoted to the new and relevant directions in the survey statistics:
Siu-Ming Tam and Anders Holmberg (Australian Bureau of Statistics), “New Data Sources for Official Statistics – A Game Changer for Survey Statisticians?”
Gabriele Ascari, Karin Blix, Giovanna Brancato, Thomas Burg, Angela McCourt, Arnout van Delden, Danutë Krapavickaitë, Niels Ploug, Sander Scholtus, Peter Stoltze, Ton de Waal, Li-Chun Zhang (EU), “Quality of Multisource Statistics – the KOMUSO Project”.
* Software Review: Stanislav Kolenikov, Brady T. West, Peter Lugtig present their recommendations for the complex sample survey data providers in an article titled “A Checklist for Assessing the Analysis Documentation for Public-Use Complex Sample Survey Data Sets”.
