Following an very successful first edition, a workshop on geostatistical methods for population health scientists will be delivered by Dr Emanuele Giorgi and Prof Peter Diggle at Lancaster University on 22-24 June 2020. With a mix of lectures and lab sessions, the workshop will cover the class of generalized linear geostatistical models and their applications to public health problems, while keeping the mathematical formalism to a minimum.
The lab sessions will be based on the PrevMap package available in the R software environment. Each participant will be provided with slides, data-sets and R code beforehand. On the last day of the workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to present and receive feedback on their own projects that address public health questions requiring the use of spatial statistical methods.
The programme of the workshop can be downloaded at this link: www.lancaster.ac.uk/staff/giorgi/Workshop2020Programme.pdf
Prerequisites for the workshop are basic knowledge of linear regression and (desirable but not necessary) R programming.

Participants to the first edition of the workshop have said:
"Everything was really interesting; The theorical course as well as the practicals and presentations."
"Personal feedback from Emanuele & Peter. Discussions with other participants over dinner. New academic friendships made. Practical worked examples, mostly led by the lecturer which was good. Shared materials online. Chance to share research at the Meet The Geostatisticians talks. Great location."
"The practical sessions helped me to implement the theories that I had learnt during the lectures."
"The theory was very understandable. Discussing how to overcome possible obstacles and the interpretation of the results was also really good."
"It was really useful to hear Peter and Emanuele's advice and guidance, and I enjoyed the format of lectures followed by workshops."
