This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to use basic statistical concepts and methods to measure pay & bonus gaps (gender, ethnicity, disability, etc), identify the key drivers of their pay gaps & decide which actions are most likely to close a pay gap. The course will focus on improving your skills in these areas:
1. Calculating & interpreting the statutory statistics i.e. Mean, Median & Percentiles
2. Presenting & interpreting your data with Histograms and Box Plots
3. Comparing yourself against another e.g. yourself in previous years, other employers, national benchmarks, etc and drawing correct conclusions
4. Deciding if your sample size is sufficient to draw conclusions
5. Identifying Key Drivers of your pay gaps using What-If methods
6. Choosing the correct Key Metric(s) to include and monitor in your action plans to close your gaps
7. Understanding the similarities and differences between pay gap analytics for binary characteristics (e.g. gender) and multiple characteristics (e.g. ethnicity)
All calculations and course exercises will be based on Microsoft Excel and participants will need to bring a laptop with Microsoft Excel loaded. You will need to be aware of the statutory gender pay gap reporting process in the UK and the official terminology used. More information can be found here https://gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk/.
I have 20 years' experience of running training courses aimed at non-statisticians who need to use statistics in their day job. I have also blogged extensively about pay gaps and if you read these blogs, you will see some of the ideas that I will be covering in this course. You can find these blogs here https://marriott-stats.com/nigels-blog/category/diversity/
This course is also available as in-house course to be run on your premises so please contact me for more information if you are interested in this. A course description can be found here https://marriott-stats.com/introduction-to-pay-gap-analytics/.
