Chief Statistician, Home Office, London

You will be expected to:
Provide authoritative advice to the Home Secretary, Ministers and department on statistical methods, accurate presentation and use of a wide range of National Statistics, Official Statistics, Experimental Statistics and management information;
Lead and develop a community of some 50 professional statisticians within the department and be a visible senior leader within the wider analytical community of around 350;
Act as Head of Profession for statistics, developing the capability of the department’s statisticians and being responsible for overseeing the Home Office’s statistical functions;
Promote accurate use of the Code of Practice for Statistics by policymakers and operational decision-makers within the Home Office.
Responsibilities
You must be able to demonstrate their experience and skills against these essential criteria:
Strong technical expertise and demonstrable experience in statistical data collection, analysis and dissemination to support policy and operations. The Government Statistical Service Competency Framework (https://gss.civilservice.gov.uk/policy-store/competency-framework-for-the-government-statistician-group-gsg/) will be used as the basis for assessment of statistical competence, with the Level 3 ‘Principal Statistician’ criteria the minimum statistical ability required for this role;
