Dear all,
With this message, we would like to inform you about the following news with regard to our Rural Geographies in Transition Conference (Groningen, The Netherlands, 22-24 June 2020)
1. The deadline for submitting abstracts has been extended to 15 January 2020! Abstracts of max. 250 words can be uploaded through the website www.rural.geo2020.nl. They will be reviewed and assigned to working groups by the organisation. The date of acceptance will be at the end of February 2020.
2. The program is becoming more concrete. The conference starts at Monday 22 June at 15:30 with an opening and a key note by dr. Thilo Lang (Leibniz-Institute for Regional Geography, Germany) who will philosophize about potential directions for rural transformations in his presentation “Rural post-development in an increasingly rurban world”.
3. Next to regular presentation sessions, we organize a ‘Policy Morning’ on Tuesday 23 June. Topics that will be discussed are 1) efficient use of funds for improving quality of life at regional and local level, 2) effective interventions to fight intergenerational poverty and 3) how to improve residential quality in a housing market with a surplus of houses. If you know of any interesting examples, cases or best practices in your country that are good to share with others, please let us know!
4. Because of all discussions (and protests) around new forms of agricultural production we offer space for a special session on the geographical aspects of the transition towards Nature Inclusive Agriculture. Presentations on this topic are highly appreciated!
5. On Tuesday afternoon there will be field visits to experience aspects of rural transformations in the Netherlands, among others on village enterprises, agricultural transformations, and care.
6. If you are interested in receiving news-updates about the conference, please sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the homepage of the conference website.
Hope to see you all in Groningen in June 2020!
The Local organising committee, prof. Tialda Haartsen, dr. Koen Salemink & prof. Dirk Strijker
