Hi Theresa
We do not offer 24/7 support for any of our POCT services. Instead we went down the route of resilience, providing more than one device of each type in the areas where this would be critical to service delivery, or identifying where the user could access the same devices nearby. We do offer a weekend support to blood gases but this is a scheduled visit to check all analysers are functional and issues dealt with at that point in time. Again, other analysers are available nearby.
I guess the key thing is to risk assess the criticality of offering a particular test 24/7 in the specialty of interest. Then put in a system whereby staff know how to access the test from other areas when downtime is experienced.

Subject: POCT Support
Hi All,
Can I ask if anybody provides POCT support 24/7? This is something that has come up at our Trust due to an incident over a weekend. Currently we only provide support Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
Be really interested in what other Trusts provide.
Thanks,
Theresa
