Please forgive self-promotion but I am very proud of this book. I sincerely hope that it will be of interest.
“From the Periphery - Real-Life Stories of Disability” has recently been published by Chicago Review Press. The book consists of nearly forty first-person narratives from activists and everyday people who describe what it's like to be treated differently by society because of their disabilities. Even though the individuals are American, their stories in the book are universal.
The narratives are raw and painful but also surprisingly funny and deeply moving—describing anger, independence, bigotry, solidarity, and love, in the family, at school, and in the workplace. Inspired by the oral historians Studs Terkel and Svetlana Alexievich, "From the Periphery" aims to increase the understanding of the lived experiences of people with disabilities, their responses to oppression, and the strategies they use to fight for empowerment.
You can read more about the book on my website: www.piajustesen.com or on the website of the publisher: www.chicagoreviewpress.com/from-the-periphery-products-9781641601580.php
The book is available wherever books are sold and online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, SAXO, etc.
With all best wishes,
