The Department of Physics at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented =
scientist to the role of Assistant Professor in Advanced Physical
Instrumentation and Data Analysis.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Centre for Advanced
Instrumentation (CfAI). CfAI develops state-of-the-art instruments for
application across a wide range of disciplines including astronomical
instrumentation, biophysics, remote sensing, gamma ray astronomy,
fusion diagnostics and with an interest in exploring opportunities for
precision measurements for understanding fundamental physics. We are
interested in applicants who have a strong potential to develop
instrumentation to advance scientific understanding in one of these
fields and the subsequent processing and analysis of the recorded
data. The position will start around October 2020.
Durham University hosts one of Europe's largest and most vibrant
research groups working in the fields of space science and
instrumentation. Currently we have 32 permanent members of staff, 4
long-term research fellows, and around 100 postdocs, post-graduate
students, and support staff. CfAI also has dedicated instrumentation
laboratories for integration and test located at the NETPark
technology park about 7 miles from Durham. Further information may be
