A reminder of the screening of Annik Leroy's films at the Whitechapel Gallery, London, this Saturday, 23rd November, as below. This is a rare screening in the UK of these three very beautiful films – which respond in some way to legacies of war, experienced in Germany and beyond. There will be in discussion with Annik (with film-makers Anthea Kennedy and Ian Wiblin) as part of the event (programmed by Gareth Evans).
'The European Edge' – Belgian artist and film-maker Annik Leroy introduces her three remarkable 16mm feature essay films:
'In der Dämmerstunde Berlin de l’aube à la nuit' (67mins, B+W, 1980)
(...shot in Berlin in the late 1970s)
'Vers la Mer' (87mins, B+W, 1999)
(...exploring the presence and poetics of the Danube – and the political and historical identities of place and of the people who live along the river's course)
'TREMOR - Es ist immer Krieg' (92mins, B+W, 2017
(...confronting the constant psychic challenge of permanent conflict)
Whitechapel Gallery, Saturday, 23rd November, from 11.30-18.00.
