Dear Colleagues,
The MeCCSA Social Movements Network is inviting proposals for hosting events in 2020.
The Network creates opportunities to research and discuss the role of media, film, communication and cultural studies in social movements, improving the ability of researchers to engage with activists and groups engaged in social movements and conducting critical analysis of the ways in which they are mediated and how they mediate themselves.
Aims and Objectives:
- To encourage the critical study of social movements, and to promote the work of academics, researchers and practitioners whose work is concerned with any aspect or perspective in the study of social movements, nationally and internationally.
- To develop links and dialogues with social movements organisations and other related networks to facilitated research.
- To facilitate spaces for reflecting upon the ways in which academic research can contribute to these movements.
The Event Proposal should include the following sections:
Event title
Dates and location
Description of the event
Budget (including projected income and expenditure)
Please note that MeCCSA can cover:
- travel and expenses for guest speakers to Network event(s), but not speaker fees unless the speaker is freelance and will lose out on earnings in order to attend the event.
- a contribution towards the costs of one round of refreshments (e.g. beverages and biscuits) for any seminar/events (half or full day), although we also expect such events to include a delegate fee.
MeCCSA will NOT pay for University room hire and associated costs.
Please send your proposals or any queries to Dr Ruth Sanz Sabido at [log in to unmask] by 15 December 2019.
All proposals will be reviewed by the Network Committee and decisions will be communicated by 15 January 2020.
Best wishes,
Ruth
