This might be a “security” issue. Apple keep making it harder and harder to put third party software on its computers. I’m not running Catalina yet on any computer, but the chap upstairs is, so we tried it there. There was not a pre-existing (Analysis 2.4) installation, so likely the situation is not identical with what you have. But with a new installation, if you run bin/analysis, it complains about the software (some security related issue, I don’t remember the exact wording). You have to go into System Preferences into the Security & Privacy tab and click the lock to make changes. Then when you start up Analysis and “cancel” it, there should appear an option to allow it in that Security & Privacy tab. The only problem is that it seems to do this for every bloody library being loaded, so you have to do this over and over again (only the first time you run the program). ***But*** there seems to be a nice work around. So we then put the tgz into /opt and untarred it there. Then Analysis ran ok without all this security hassle. Note that just moving the top ccpnmr directory from a normal directory to /opt was not enough, we needed to unpack the tgz in /opt. So existing installations likely will face the security hassle. I’d recommend downloading the Analysis tgz from the CCPN website, unpack it in /opt, get all the updates, and hopefully that will then work ok. (Obviously don’t delete any existing installation!)
If this is not the problem your students are facing, what was it? (So any messages.)
Catalana also doesn’t like 32 bit apps, but Analysis 2.4 should be 64 bit, at least it claims so on my Mac.
