The editorial board for Anthropology in Action is looking for a new editor (or co-editors)
Applications are invited for the position of Managing Editor or Co-Managing Editor of Anthropology in Action, which is published by Berghahn Books in collaboration with ASA’s Applied Anthropology network. The appointment will be for 3-years, with potential for renewal. We are seeking expressions of interest from people with relevant subject interest and editing experience to take on this role from the current editor, Professor Christine McCourt, who plans to step down early in 2020.
The journal is focused on the public role of anthropology and covers a broad range of interests and sub-disciplines, including but not limited to health, development, design, governmentality, and a range of other subjects of interest to both anthropology and public policy. Articles and contributions also cover a range of broader cross-cutting themes such as ethics, methodology, interdisciplinary and intersectoral work and participatory research. The editor role includes overseeing reviews, planning and scheduling future issues, and liaison with the editorial board for strategy and advice and appointing section or special issue editors or media co-ordinators where appropriate. The role has an important quality dimension.
The position could be of interest to those with anthropological knowledge and experience working in any field, including those working in academic anthropology or other disciplinary departments, those working in the public or private sector or independent anthropologists. The role is honorary, not paid, so applicants need to be confident that they can commit sufficient time to the work. The newly appointed editor or editors will be able to work collaboratively with the current editor for an initial period to gain a practical understanding of the role.
Expressions of interest (EOI) are welcome from individuals or from people interested in making a joint application (2 people preferred but no more than 3). You should have a doctorate in anthropology or a closely related subject or commensurate professional experience.
If you would like to apply, please send a statement of no more than 750 words, setting out your reasons for applying, your relevant experiences and your key ideas for taking the journal forward over the next few years. Please also attach a brief CV, ensuring that it includes relevant information about your editing experience or other experience relevant to this role. Please also provide the name and contact details of two independent referees and indicate whether or not you give your agreement for us to contact them. Please send your EOI to the current editor, Christine McCourt, by 15th December 2019. [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
