The next event of the Glasgow local group of the Royal Statistical Society will be on Monday the 2nd of December at 17:00. Hopefully, you will be able to join us at the University of Strathclyde in Room LT908 in the Livingstone Tower.
See details below for the event:
Strictly come visualising
Speaker: Robert Grant
Time: 17:00-19:00
Place: LT908, Livingstone Tower, University of Strathclyde, G1 1XH
Meeting Point: University of Strathclyde
Summary: Data Visualisation is a buzzword and a sought-after skill in business, academia and government. Statisticians (like the speaker Robert Grant) are generally not taught about effective graphical presentation of data, models and predictions, so how are we to acquire confidence in this fascinating but unfamiliar field? I will present some overarching principles and caveats, and then look at the best (perhaps the only) way to become fluent in data visualisation design and coding: creative thinking and practice. With festive gameshows in mind, everyone present will be challenged to come up with quick-fire ideas for various scenarios. Classic or wacky, there is no right or wrong, as the aim is to take a first step into creative thinking for communicating your data visually. Drawing ability is absolutely not necessary!
Registration: Please register to attend by visiting our website and registering on eventbrite.
