Data Scientist - Statistician

The Data Science team in R&D provides leading edge statistics and data science expertise to deliver predictive models and advanced analytics that help drive Unilever's research programmes. The focus of the team is the design and planning of experiments, analyses of data, building and validating predictive models and interpretation and exploitation of analysis outcomes. The brands we support span Unilever's divisions, and include Dove, Magnum, Domestos and Knorr.
All about You:
We are looking for a Statistician or Data Scientist, who will support our Product Innovation and Science & Technology teams in R&D. The ideal candidate is adept at statistical experimental design, analysing small and large sets of data and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. This statistician or data scientist must have strong background in statistical analysis, modelling and experience using a variety of data analysis methods, to build and implement models. The right candidate will have a passion for problem solving, discovering solution/insights hidden in data and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.
You should have a Masters Degree in Statistics or Biostatistics, with proven experience as a Statistician or Data Scientist in research or the FMCG/Retail/Pharmaceutical industries applying a variety of data analysis methods.
Locations: Colworth Laboratory, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire UK; Port Sunlight Laboratory, Merseyside, UK
Knowledge &Technical Skills:
* Demonstrated fluency in applying statistics methods in scientific research.
* Experience of applying statistical Design of Experiments approaches.
* Hands-on technical expertise in data visualization - understanding patterns in data
* Strong technical background in multivariate statistical methods.
* Hands-on experience with professional statistical software such as SAS, R and JMP.
* Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills; the ability to frame a problem.
* Ability to collaborate and consult effectively in global teams across time-zones and cultures
Main Responsibilities:
* Provision of statistics and data science expertise across a range of R&D disciplines.
* Engagement and collaboration with globally deployed, multi-disciplinary teams including both internal and external partners.
* Engagement in continuous learning initiatives to keep abreast of state of the art analytical and statistical computing methods and tools.
* Responsibility for the quality and defensibility of statistical analyses, models and data interpretation.
