review question and understand how to conduct a literature search
   - Apply inclusion criteria to identify relevant studies
   - Undertake critical appraisal of evidence using standardised quality
   checklists
   - Develop a data extraction form and extract relevant outcomes from
   reported studies
   - Select appropriate methods of evidence synthesis and be able to
   describe and summarise key results
   - Be familiar with statistical methods for analysis of quantitative data
   - Explore the use of meta-analysis in data synthesis using computer
   software
   - Understand potential sources of heterogeneity between included studies
   - Be familiar with good practice in reporting of systematic reviews

Real World Evaluation: Ten Key Principles for Evaluating Complex Health and
Social Interventions
2 day course - Wednesday 22nd - Thursday 23rd April 2020
*Overview*: The course is primarily focused on evaluations in complex ‘real-
world’ situations, in which the evaluator has limited control over the
intervention or context, and traditional experimental methods are
inappropriate. It aims to introduce ten key principles for evaluation of
complex interventions and how to apply these in health and social care
settings. During the 2-day short course, time will be provided for
structured, self-directed study to reflect on experiences and begin to
design an evaluation proposal that is in line with the nature of your
specific needs. Who will benefit? Anyone with an interest in evaluation
especially those who feel that there is a need to address issues of
complexity which have been overlooked in traditional methods of evaluation.

By the end of this programme participants will be able to:

   - Recognise differences between simple, complicated and complex
   interventions
   - Identify and prioritise areas of complexity
   - Describe ten key principles for evaluating complex interventions
   - Discuss the strengths and limitations of various approaches for
   evaluating complex interventions
   - Plan the application of methods for theory-driven evaluation
   - Develop and test programme theories
   - Appreciate the key issues for data analysis and presentation of
   findings

*Early bird bookings for this course will close automatically close on 23rd
February 2020*
*Standard bookings will close on 8th April 2020*

Scoping Reviews, Mapping Reviews and Evidence Gap Maps (New for 2020)
1-day course - Thursday 9th July 2020
*Background*: Demand for evidence synthesis to inform practice, policy and
research agendas has grown exponentially over the last three decades. In
response, systematic review methods have evolved to meet the increasingly
diverse types of questions that systematic review methods are being used to
address.
*Objectives*:The purpose of this one-day short course is to introduce
attendees to mapping reviews and EGMs, how they differ from other
systematic reviews, examples of how they are used, methods, and how to
produce an EGM.

*Early bird booking for this course will close on 9th May 2020.*

*Standard booking will close on 25th June 2020 *
