The Statistical Computing Section and the East Midlands Local Group of
the Royal Statistical Society are delighted to invite you to an event
which showcases the wide spectrum of career paths available to young
statisticians in the area of Computational Statistics and Machine Learning.
The event will take place at the Keighton Auditorium in the University
of Nottingham on the 27th of November 2019 from 13.30 - 17.30.
This half-a-day event will provide a unique opportunity to hear
first-hand the experiences of statisticians and machine learners working in:
- Amazon (Javier Gonzalez)
- Boots (Mace Maclean)
- Lancaster University (Rebecca Killick)
- Microsoft Research (Konstantina Palla)
- Nokia-Bell-Labs (Sanja Scepanovic)
- Prowler.io (Sofia Ceppi).
The speakers will discuss how they use statistics and machine learning
in their jobs, what led them to these careers and offer tips for
students interested in following a similar career path.
The talks will be followed by a Q&A panel which will in turn be followed
by a wine reception for networking and further discussion.
It will be of interest to career-young attendees looking to get some
insight into future employment possibilities and also to less young folk
interested in hearing about a variety of different settings
where statistics and machine learning are used and applied.
If you are thinking of a career in statistics involving Computational
Statistics and/or Machine Learning, this is an event not to miss!
The event is free to attend.
