Research Fellow and Network Coordinator in Decarbonising Transport
https://jobs.leeds.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=ENVTR1107
Would you like to be part of an exciting networking project to deliver a rapid step-change in the decarbonisation of transport? Do you have an established background in the environmental impacts of transport at different spatial scales? Can you effectively communicate to stakeholders? Are you passionate about making a difference to climate change?
This role is part of an exciting new three year EPSRC funded research network, DecarboN8, working with Professor Greg Marsden and colleagues from across the N8 Research Partnership (https://www.n8research.org.uk/). It also provides support to a wider EPSRC decarbonising transport initiative.
The DecarboN8 network research will focus on how to integrate scientific advances across the boundaries that matter to the deployment and uptake of innovations to achieve more rapid, effective and socially acceptable carbon reduction pathways. You will work with Transport for the North and other government bodies across the North to develop an integrated repository of carbon related data sources from across the transport and energy sector.
You will be responsible for aggregating data sets to enable interrogation of the carbon data across different spatial scales and different transport and energy networks. You will be analysing the data at a range of spatial scales to help discern the right scale for different decarbonisation policies to operate at. You will be expected to write up elements of the work for publication in good academic journals. As well as being academically excellent and publishable, your work will inform policy briefings, research funding calls and innovation projects with DecarboN8 collaborators.
You will also work to support Professor Marsden's role as EPSRC transport decarbonisation champion. Here, the work will focus on bringing together findings from across the five networks (https://epsrc.ukri.org/newsevents/news/networks-to-prepare-uk-transport-for-a-low-carbon-future/). You will also have responsibility for designing effective engagement events to communicate these findings to policy and industry stakeholders.
With a PhD or near completion - i.e. the initial thesis needs to have been handed in at the point of application, which is related to either transport, climate change, spatial analysis or a combination of these subjects, you will need to think creatively about how to fuse data sets from energy and transport to explore variations in carbon use through a range of different lenses. These might include individual, household, community, business or network scales. The application areas will cover fuels, vehicle to grid integration and freight as well as private travel.
