The *History of Statistics Section

<https://www.rss.org.uk/RSS/Get_involved/Sections_and_study_groups/History_of_Statistics/RSS/Get_involved/Sections/History_of_Statistics_Study_Group.aspx?hkey=0e0b19c3-c276-48c8-a281-ad52eecf4822>*oOf the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking new members to serve on its committee from 2020.

The section aims to promote and enliven the history of statistics. We normally organise 3-4 public meetings a year including sessions at the RSS Conference. Recent examples include an event on R. A. Fisher and the RSS; a walking tour of the RSS and its environs; and data visualisation in the popular Victorian press. We also contribute to RSS Discussion meetings.

Being a member of the committee is a commitment and can be a very rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to actively engage with others who are interested in, and appreciate, the importance of the history of statistics.

We are particularly looking for people who are keen to contribute new ideas for section activities, as well as actively help organise events. We are keen to have volunteers who, after settling in, may be interested in taking officer roles, such as chair, vice-chair, secretary, or meetings secretary.

We hold three committee meetings per year, which can be attended in person at Errol Street, London (travel expenses paid), or remotely by teleconference. Much of our core business is communicated over email.

If you would like to be considered for the committee, please send an email (subject line “History Section Committee 2020”) to Cecilia at *[log in to unmask]

<[log in to unmask]>* by *6pm* on *Monday 21 October 2019*, with a paragraph (up to 200 words) summarising your background, why you would like to join, and what you will contribute to the committee. For the 2020 committee, we particularly welcome applications from early career academic or industry statisticians from different disciplinary backgrounds.

The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics.
