Apologies if this is not the right mailing list to use but I've just found out about this list and wanted to get the word out about two vacancies.

An opportunity has arisen for x1 Desktop Support Technician and x2 Technical Specialists to join the University, working within the Information Systems & Technology Directorate. You will be part of the Technical Support Team reporting to the IT Technical Operations Manager.

DESKTOP SUPPORT TECHNICIAN


Your role will involve providing second line support for all staff and students at Bucks New University and be responsible for resolving support requests with regards to installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all hardware and equipment (including but not limited to PCs, Macs, Mobile Data Devices and MFD) to ensure optimal performance. You should have experience in the imaging of desktops and laptops (back end knowledge of SCCM and Casper/Jamf Pro is beneficial) and there will be involvement in periodic software refresh cycles with general maintenance duties. You will be responsible for dealing with tickets escalated from the Service Desk by diagnosing and resolving/escalating issues via an incident management procedure.

As a Desktop Support Technician you will need to have a flexible and innovative approach to supporting the technical requirements of the university's user base with an ability to adapt in a fast paced environment. You will have experience and good knowledge of Apple OS, Microsoft Windows (especially Windows 10) as well as knowledge of Offcie 365 (and associated/similar applications) in addition to editing software such as those available in the Adobe Creative Cloud. Additionally you will have knowledge of network or communication technologies including TCP/IP & Windows networking. 

You will be required to provide an excellent level of customer service and demonstrate strong people support skills with the ability to work calmly under pressure to ensure that deadlines are met.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Good understanding of Microsoft Windows 10 and current macOS;

End user knowledge of and experience of supporting Office 365 including Outlook, Adobe applications and other systems and software used in an education and business environment;

Experience with supporting mobile data devices, audio visual devices and printers;

Experience with automated desktop deployment including Microsoft SCCM and Jamf Pro;
 
Ability to create and maintain standards for technical support documentation for the installation and support procedures including deployment and testing;
 
A flexible approach, with outstanding problem-solving skills, the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal and have patience towards colleagues who may not be that IT savvy.

TECHNICAL SPECIALISTS

Your role will involve developing in-depth knowledge of key pieces of IT and technical simulation equipment and software used in teaching and learning spaces. This is a hands-on role where you will be required to participate in the management of periodic software refresh cycles and also general maintenance duties. You will also be responsible for dealing with tickets escalated from the Service Desk, that fall into your area, by diagnosing and resolving/escalating issues via an incident management procedure.

As a Technical Specialist you will need to have a flexible and innovative approach to supporting the technical and simulation requirements of the university, working as part of a wider team and also by yourself at times. You must be passionate about emerging technology and have the drive to develop skills in new areas.

You will be required to provide an excellent level of customer service and demonstrate strong people support skills with the ability to work calmly under pressure to ensure that deadlines are met.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate: 

Good understanding of Microsoft Windows 10 and current macOS;

Experience with automated desktop deployment including Microsoft SCCM and Jamf Pro; 

End user knowledge of and experience of supporting animation, gaming and CAD applications;

Experience with upgrading specialist technical simulation equipment  and also mobile data devices, audio visual devices and printers;

Confidence working with academic staff to capture technical requirements to assist with the design, build and testing of classroom and      laboratory equipment;

A flexible approach, with outstanding problem-solving skills, the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal and have patience towards colleagues who may not be that IT savvy.
