Dear all,
I've been tasked with putting together a list of options for updating our scanning equipment in the museum. We currently have a rather elderly Epsom scanner and it no longer suits our needs. The scans we do are mostly for research purposes, although we are increasingly scanning for use in publications and other marketing material.
Ideally, we are looking for something that can scan books (supported in a cradle), archive material and photographs, at a minimum of 600dpi.
I have searched through previous messages and have obtained quotes for a couple of options from Zeutschel as a starting point, but I fear they'll be outside of our budget. At the other end of the scale, there appear to be a lot of options for overhead scanners, such as the FUJITSU Image Scanner ScanSnap SV600, but I'll admit I'm wary of how effective it would be for delicate rare books - it looks to be more of a home solution to me.
I'm slightly swamped with the options that are out there and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations? It would also be useful to know if I'm asking too much for a low budget!
Any suggestions, either on or off list would be greatly appreciated. I'd be very happy to summarise responses and post back to the list as well.
Best regards,
Louise Pichel
