Venice in Peril Fund is seeking a professional Archivist & Records Manager
Venice in Peril Fund is a UK charity which, since 1971, has raised funds for some 60 conservation projects in Venice ranging from individual works of art to entire churches.
In support of its conservation work, Venice in Peril also promotes a deeper understanding of Venice to encourage responsible and informed engagement with the city and maintains its concern for the wider environmental issues affecting the city and the lagoon. As the British Committee for the Preservation of Venice it is one of 21 international committees working in this World Heritage site.
The Fund celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2021 and would like to establish an archive reflecting its work and achievements going back to 1971. It would also like to develop a records management programme which will ensure that, in future, records are secured for the archive in accordance with relevant best practice and legislation. It is important that both these initiatives support and enhance the everyday business and future success of Venice in Peril.
The accumulated papers of Venice in Peril are located mainly in London with further material in Venice. They are of interest both for the history of heritage conservation and for the study of international cultural and institutional relations.
The successful candidate will have an MA or diploma in Archives and Records Management, knowledge of relevant archive and records management best practice and standards and previous experience in a similar role (ie. establishing an archive and records management programme from scratch). Applicants need to have a good understanding of written Italian and have excellent communications skills. Experience of charitable organisations and some knowledge of heritage conservation and/or post-war Anglo-Italian relations would be an advantage.
This project is estimated to take between six to nine months on a full-time basis but with some flexibility on timing. Remuneration will be in line with ARA Lower Management Level 1 guidelines.
