Dear All,
The Royal Statistical Society and the IMA is delighted to announce that they will be offering the Higher Education Teaching and Learning Series for 2019/20.
The Higher Education Teaching and Learning Series provides an opportunity for higher education mathematical sciences departments to request supporting funds for facilitating a teaching and learning related workshop. While workshops may be focused upon themes relevant to a hosting department, successful proposers will open their events to the wider mathematical and statistical community. As such, it is expected that a range of different themes will be supported through this initiative, and that the selected themes will be of interest and relevance to other mathematics and statistics departments. Workshops may focus upon a particular theme, however it is expected that they will be relevant to the full range of programmes within the mathematical sciences.
While any well-argued theme for a workshop related to the learning and teaching of mathematics and/or statistics within UK higher education will be considered, the IMA and RSS have identified the following themes which they feel would be of particular interest to the mathematical sciences community:
• Engaging students with research-led teaching (including providing undergraduates with exposure to recent disciplinary research ideas and opportunities for undergraduates to undertake disciplinary research)
• Assessment: Innovative and alternative methods for assessing students within the mathematical sciences
• Involving employers in the development and delivery of the mathematical sciences curriculum
• Mechanisms for evaluating and researching teaching & learning
• Student teaching schemes: Providing opportunities for students to gain teaching experience (and wider skills) through working with local schools and colleges.
Workshops addressing other themes are welcomed, and encouraged, however the focus of the proposed workshop should be relevant beyond the hosting institution.
Key Information
• Proposals should be submitted online by Sunday 17 November 2019.
• Proposals will be reviewed by the IMA and RSS and notification will be made by Friday 6 December 2019.

Rachel
