Dear All,
We have followed the latest discussion about black African statisticians in allstat. We have been looking into the related issue of the inclusion of researchers with affiliations in Africa, in issues that they are themselves affected by. There is much and important research being published on challenges in Africa, yet the majority of papers have no local researchers attached with the general authorship ratio also being skewed heavily in favour of Western researchers. Who is actually benefiting from this research? Already burdened by economic problems, political instability and vast regions in Africa being deprived of their resources by industrialised nations we believe that the inclusion and support of local researchers is an essential step in building a competitive, interconnected and self-sufficient research community on the continent. We are more than happy to share more information on this issue and our approach to quantify it with anyone that is interested.
