Apologies for cross-posting
Dear all,
We are delighted to announce our call for applications for the GCT PhD Scholarship to attend the 'Global Challenges in Transport : Health and Wellbeing' course (3-6 September 2019), part of the Global Challenges in Transport Oxford Leadership programme.
The scholarship constitutes a unique opportunity for 3 exceptional PhD candidates to be part of the executive education programme delivered by the Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford, for a highly reduced fare of £750. The programme attracts each year transport academics and professionals from several different countries that meet in the pleasant surroundings of Kellogg College to discuss the challenges of developing more sustainable transport systems with the support of world leading academics.
The 2019 Health and Wellbeing course provides transport practitioners and academics with the instruments to understand transport-related health impacts and the tools to begin tackling them. It specifically considers health, wellbeing and social equity across spatial scales, geographical contexts and transport modes. Our session will cover key topic such as:
* well-being and mobilities;
* active travel;
* traffic safety;
* the social and distributional impacts of transport;
* the use of health impact assessment tools;
* integrating health in transport decision-making;
* transport, wellbeing and livelihoods.
At the same time, the course provides participants with innovative perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches to the integration of transport planning with health and wellbeing - using insights from across the social sciences including geography, anthropology, and sociology.
Our speakers will include worldwide experts from academia and public sector such as Prof Tim Schwanen (University of Oxford), Professor Karen Lucas (University of Leeds), Dr Audrey de Nazelle (Imperial College London), Dr Debbie Hopkins (University of Oxford), Dr Christian Brand (University of Oxford), Dr Jennie Middleton (University of Oxford), and many others.
