Time & Date: 15:00-16:00, 27th September
Topic: Discrete Choice Analysis with Machine Learning Capabilities
Abstract:
Discrete Choice Analysis (DCA) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are suitable for different kinds of applications. However, we present two enhanced algorithms that add to DCA the common ML capabilities of data driven flexible functional forms, automated model estimation, regularization to prevent over-fitting and validation to optimize prediction accuracy. The first algorithm finds the best tree structure of a nested logit model and the second algorithm finds a sparse covariance structure for a continuous random coefficients logit mixture.
Speaker Bio:
Moshe Ben-Akiva is the Edmund K. Turner Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Director of the MIT Intelligent Transportation Systems Lab, and Principal Investigator at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology.
