Hi Melanie,

We moved from 2.7.3 to 2.7.6 due to our migration to SaaS this summer. The critical issues with 2.7.6 for us are:

> Error 124: student unable to access feedback via MyGrades (also in 2.7.3 although Turnitin state this issue is limited to our institution) [Error 124 video: https://tinyurl.com/y4rm8cry]

> Assignment title truncating issue: mitigated using JSHacks.

Our testing indicates that these are both resolved in 2.8.0, however, whilst testing 2.8.0 we discovered a change in behaviour when configuring a Turnitin inbox to 'release only on post-date’ once the post-date rule is fulfilled:

Blackboard Learn Course Grade Centre behaviour:

2.7.6 (anticipated behaviour)

> Automatically changed column visibility from hidden to visible: yes

> Mark/Grade automatically populated: yes

> Paper url added: yes (error 124)

2.8.0 (unorthodox behaviour)

> Automatically changed column visibility from hidden to visible: yes

> Mark/Grade automatically populated: no

> Paper url added: no

This change was not detailed in the release notes so I logged this with Turnitin last week, we have not received any update and have no indication if other institutions experience this. The mark and paper link can be successfully synchronised manually, however as this is a change to our workflow for release of marks and feedback we feel it would require significant communications and documentation updates for our users in advance - and only once we have confirmation from Turnitin which workflow will be supported in future releases.

We have reluctantly decided to delay updating to 2.8.0 until after the change freeze period. We are on Blackboard SaaS and with 2.8.0 not supporting Java 11, we will be required to update to Turnitin's 2.8.0 Java 11 equivalent building block when Turnitin makes it available. It is far from ideal to be updating the building block in Oct/Nov during the peak of Semester 1 assessment period.

Thanks,

Denny

    Hello all

We use Turnitin via Blackboard Basic Integration and are currently on 2.7.5.

We have internal restrictions about when we can update Building Blocks and have a window coming up when we could update.

We’ve had no issues whilst on 2.7.5 and therefore have no urgent need to change. However, it looks like there are 3 more recent releases with the most recent last week (2.7.8). There were a few negative comments about 2.7.6 on the mailing list to do with CSS – not sure if they got resolved satisfactorily?

I'm wondering if there are more people still out there on 2.7.5 or if most people have upgraded and are happy on the version they are on?

    Thanks

    Melanie

    Hi Melanie

At https://help.turnitin.com/integrations-download.htm I'm seeing the latest version listed as 2.8.0

    Version number: 2.8.0

    Supported Blackboard versions:

    SaaS | Q2 2018 | Q4 2018 | Q2 2019

    Last updated: 27th August 2019

    Release notes: Recent<https://help.turnitin.com/release-notes/blackboard/blackboard-basic-release-notes.htm#2019-August-27th>

The change from 2.7.x to 2.8.x suggests that it's more than just an incremental release?

I like the sound of the improvements - https://help.turnitin.com/release-notes/blackboard/blackboard-basic-release-notes.htm#2019-August-27th - but given that 2.7.5 was mostly working OK for us, and having been bitten by buggy plug-in releases in the past, I don't think I'm going to entertain upgrading this close to the start of the new year.

Also, unless you've got an RSS feed set up from their new releases page, how were we supposed to learn about this new version?

I'm the Turnitin admin for the university but have seen no notifications.

    And @TurnitinStatus hasn't tweeted since July 24th.

So thanks for the heads up!

    Andy

Thanks Andy for pointing out it’s 2.8.0 – I misread that!

We are reluctant to change since nothing’s broken too.
