Dear All
Please see attached the flyer for the call for abstracts for THE research conference, run annually by the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. One strand is devoted completely to maternity care research and we usually have upwards of 16-20 countries involved in the whole conference.
We would love you to submit an abstract - old and new friends always welcome! The closing date for abstracts is 25th October. Please can I ask you also to circulate the call widely to all your personal contacts – clinicians, academics, friends, and colleagues?
Many thanks,
Cecily

Dear all,
Here is a further update. I now have information about postage for the book outside the UK. If you are in the EU, it will cost you less while the UK is still a member, so to be on the safe side, get back to me before October 31, after which who knows what will happen?
Best wishes, Alison
Subject: Where to be born? Would you like a copy?
This is a follow-up to my earlier email on this subject.
Twenty five years ago, the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit published the second edition of Rona Campbell and my book 'Where to be born? The debate and the evidence'. As a result of Birthplace and other similar research done since 1994, we now have much more robust and detailed evidence and it is reassuring to know that our earlier tentative conclusions have not been contradicted. Despite being 25 years old, Where to be born? is still cited widely though as, to my knowledge, no one else has described the historical background and I am often asked by midwives and others how they can get at hold of a copy.
Although the book sold well when it first came out, there was no professional publisher involved. The distribution methods we used worked well in the 1980s and early 1990s but have long been superseded. As a result, a considerable number of unsold copies have been languishing in a storage facility, a situation which can no longer continue. Although we are distributing the books themselves free of charge, getting them to you still has costs.
As I said in my earlier email, I have been looking for ways of distributing them to people who might want a copy for themselves or a number of copies for distribution to students. Anyone who is within easy reach of Oxford can just contact Thomas Roberts at NPEU, to whom this is copied, and arrange to collect copies free of charge. The same applies to anyone within easy reach of St Albans where I live, as I now have a supply at home.
For the majority of people who are further away, there are two different ways, depending on how many copies you want
1. If you want up to three copies, please email me. I will reply telling you how to pay me for postage by bank transfer or cheque and post them to you when I have received the payment. I am not going to get into invoicing, but I can give you a receipt if you need one.
2. If you want larger numbers of copies, please contact Dagmar Hutt at NPEU [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> telling her how many copies you want, the address you want them delivered to and who should be invoiced for the cost of the courier. You will be invoiced by Davies International, the courier service used by NPEU. Once the invoice has been paid Davies will collect the books from NPEU and deliver them to you. The books are currently packed in boxes of 24, so 24 copies or multiples of 24 would be particularly convenient, but other numbers are possible.
Please pass this information on to anyone who may be interested.
Best wishes, Alison Macfarlane
