Dear all
The Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness runs four funding schemes, all of which aim to support its mission of promoting and improving social scientific research, education and scholarship in the field of the sociology of health and illness. The next deadline for all four schemes is 31 October.
Briefly, the schemes are as follows:
o Mildred Blaxter postdoctoral fellowships: aimed at people who have recently received their doctorates, these fellowships offer a year's funding to support publication and preparation of funding applications. They include full salary costs and a £2500 budget for research expenses, and are tenable at any UK university.
o Symposium and workshop grants provide support for events addressing an important issue in the sociology of health and illness, up to a maximum of £2500 for a one-day event or £3000 for a two-day event.
o Research grant development awards offer pump-priming funding to assist development of high-quality, innovative, multidisciplinary research funding applications, up to £6000 per award
o Postgraduate international conference travel awards: up to £800 to support Master's and PhD students, and researchers with up to three years' experience, in presenting a paper in the area of medical sociology at an overseas conference.
Full details, and examples of past fellowships and symposia, can be found on the Foundation's website: http://www.shifoundation.org.uk/
Best wishes
Graham Martin
