I am interested to know if there are others who are interested in doing a session about landscapes of white supremacy for the 2020 AAG convention in Denver, Colorado, USA? I can cover the fees for the session itself.
I am applying the learnings about race and place to the city of Dallas and not just making historical/geographical discoveries, but also developing ideas how you would survey and investigate a locality in its entirety (methodologies). There is also the reaction of the local historical societies and preservationists. I am looking how to gather local community knowledge of race and place.
I think there could be multiple aspects to this besides just local historical/geographical discoveries regarding race and place.
As for whom I am, I am one of the co-editors with Heidi Beirich and Euan Hague of the book, "Neo-Confederacy: A Critical Introduction," Univ. of Texas Press. Co-editor with James Loewen of the "Confederate and Neo-Confederate Reader," Univ. Press of Mississippi which was a collection of primary historical documents showing that the Confederacy and Confederate "heritage" is about white supremacy.
I was awarded the Spirit of Freedom medal by the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, D.C. USA.
By the way, I am a cultural geography activist. What is the good of reading about race and place if you aren't doing anything about it?
