Dear colleagues and friends,
Just a quick reminder about the upcoming London Cartonera Book Festival to be held next week from 17 to 20 September at the University of London and the British Library.
Cartonera is a community publishing phenomenon that emerged in Latin America in the early 2000s and five cartonera collectives are coming to London from Brazil and Mexico to share how they make books, create texts and address questions of social justice in the contexts in which they are based. For a short film on how cartonera emerged see here: http://bit.ly/2m7hr6B
Each afternoon workshop will be a hands-on event and participants will get the chance to make their own uniquely hand-painted book. The 19 September workshop with Dulcinéia Catadora might be of particular interest: Dulcinéia will draw on their ongoing collaboration with Professor Tim Ingold and participants will have the opportunity to bind a cartonera book of writings that Tim and Dulcinéia have very generously made available. Booking for that workshop is available here: http://bit.ly/2m96EZF<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cartoneras-for-housing-social-justice-workshop-london-cartonera-festival-tickets-67439564553?aff=affiliate1<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.co.uk%2Fe%2Fcartoneras-for-housing-social-justice-workshop-london-cartonera-festival-tickets-67439564553%3Faff%3Daffiliate1&data=02%7C01%7Cl.a.bell%40surrey.ac.uk%7C34bb1c6214e446b17fb008d72578324a%7C6b902693107440aa9e21d89446a2ebb5%7C0%7C0%7C637019070480627487&sdata=5vz0yqhv04QgQ1t4eUq%2FFc%2Ba4A9sXgjr6HG1c4EAm6I%3D&reserved=0>>
